Former Campaign Aide Sam Nunberg Thinks Mueller ‘May’ Have Something On Trump

When it comes to the investigation into the team of Republican Donald Trump and Russia, today has been a staggeringly bad day for the president.

It started with an explosive dive into the Trump dossier author and former British MI-6 agent Christopher Steele by the New Yorker. The story included the revelation Steele wrote a memo suggesting the Russian government “intervened” and nixed Mitt Romney from consideration for Secretary of State. The position would eventually go to the more Vladimir Putin-friendly Rex Tillerson.

And now a former campaign aide is suggesting Trump “may” have done something else wrong that is getting the attention of investigators.

Sam Nunberg, a campaign aide who was fired in August 2015 over racially charged social media posts, told MSNBC today he thinks Special Counsel Robert Mueller has something on the president.

Nunberg was being questioned after a Washington Post interview regarding his scheduled appearance before a grand jury on Friday. In that interview, Nunberg was combative towards Mueller and said he would tear up his subpoena on TV.

“Let him arrest me,” Nunberg said. “Mr. Mueller should understand I am not going in on Friday.”

Nunberg said he was planning to go on Bloomberg TV and tear up the subpoena.

Nunberg’s lack of cooperation with the probe seems to stem from the idea he did nothing wrong and there is nothing to see in the documents he has. He claims the interactions with Steve Bannon and Roger Stone were just emails where they “talk about how much we hate people”. He also downplays the idea Trump colluded with the Russians.

Considering the comments of Nunberg, it’s hard to guess what he means exactly by the idea that Robert Mueller has something on Donald Trump. He later talked to CNN and alluded to the business dealings of the president, but he would not go into great detail about it.

In other words, Nunberg thinks Mueller has something on Trump likely related to his business dealings, which potentially included deals with Russians. But there was no collusion during the campaign to help get him elected, according to the former aide.

He would later go on to throw former campaign adviser Carter Page under the bus during an interview with Jake Tapper. And he even suggests collusion was occurring in some capacity with Page and the Russians.

Nunberg was sued by Trump for $10 million in 2016 for allegedly breaking a confidentiality agreement. The suit was settled and the terms were undisclosed.

All in all, it’s been a bad day for Donald Trump. And he’s handling the bad day as he usually does: tweeting out a bunch of terribleness.
